The IIHS has a great tool, that shows the coverage offered by side mirrors, back-up sensors, cameras, a shoulder check etc. It is an interactive tool, that you can try out here. quite amazing how wide of a coverage area offered by a back-up camera is. This coverage distance is unparalleled by no other existing standard car tool.

Larger vehicles such as SUVs, pick-up trucks and Mini-vans have significantly more blind spots than a car and are thus more prone to backing out accidents. Additional to this, a backup camera significantly helps you when parking into tight spots, specially while reverse or parallel parking. If you occasionally tow a trailer or a boat using your vehicle, a backup camera again makes life significantly easier while giving you a view that you would otherwise have not had.
